Creating and Managing Teller Users

Last Updated: Nov 11, 2016 03:52PM CET

Tellers represent the “front office” customer service in financial institutions and are responsible for processing customer transactions, e.g. making deposits, withdrawals or processing loan repayments and disbursements.

Typically, Tellers process all transactions through a Till (or “Cash Box”) and at the end of the day the Till’s physical balance (total coins and notes) should match the Till’s transactional balance (sum of all deposits and withdrawals processed by the Teller).

In Mambu, this operational setup is supported by:

  1. “Teller” Users (and their permissions)
  2. Tills Management
  3. Teller Transactions (Tellering widget on the Dashboard)

These items are explained in more detail throughout Tellering Articles.

Teller User Type and Permissions

In order to have access to a Till and to the Tellering widget available from the Dashboard, a User needs to be created with a “Teller” User Rights Type.

In addition to the standard User permissions (such as posting deposits or loan repayments), there are a few specific dedicated Tellering permissions, such as:

- opening/closing of Tills

- adding and removing cash from a Till

These additional permissions are required for the advanced Tills management and would normally be granted only to a “Tills Supervisor”/ “Vault Teller” - i.e. the person managing all the other (regular) Tellers. However, if Tellers are allowed to transfer money to each other, then the “adding and removing cash from a Till” permission should be granted to them as well.

With these various permissions, two levels of Teller Users can be created: a Regular Teller and a Vault (Supervisor) Teller.

Regular Teller - with “Teller” user type and therefore access to the “Tellering” widget, through which he/she can post repayments, deposits and withdrawals (provided the separate permissions for those transactions are enabled for them).

Vault Teller (Supervisor) -  with “Teller” user type and therefore access to the “Tellering” widget, through which he/she can manage the other Tills, including opening/closing a Till and adding/removing cash from the Tills.

Branch assignment is mandatory for all Teller Users and their access to clients and accounts in other branches can be managed through the “Branch access”.
